Healthy hair is very important to every individual and their self-esteem. Hair is often considered as a reflection of one’s identity because it is both personal and public. It’s an important part of one’s appearance and sets the tone for the entire look. Throughout history, hair has played a significant role in society – it is associated with youthfulness and beauty in women and virility and masculinity in men; so it’s no surprise that hair loss can make both men and women feel self-conscious and affect their confidence.
Structure And Composition Of The Hair
The hair consists of two distinct structures: the hair follicle and the hair shaft. Hair grows from a root, located in the bottom of the hair follicle. Hair follicle is the part that is beneath the skin. The follicle is an essential unit for the generation of hair. It is the part of the hair that regrows the hair when one falls off. The hair shaft is the hard filamentous part that extends above the skin surface. It is fully keratinized and non-living part of the hair. Keratin is the key structural material making up the hair. Keratin is synthesized by keratinocytes and is insoluble in water, thus ensuring impermeability and protection for the hair.
The hair follicles are connected to small blood vessels which supplies the nutrients that are needed to build the new hair cells. Protein may be the most important nutrient that is needed to build the cells but it is definitely not the only nutrient used. There are some other nutrients that are vital in building healthy hair like Biotin, Iron, Vitamin C etc. The hair shaft is surrounded by glands, the most important being the sebaceous gland, which produces sebum that acts as a natural lubricant for the hair.
Common Hair Problems
Common problems affecting the hair and scalp ranges from hair loss, premature greying of hair, itchy scalp, infestations of headlice, dandruff to bacterial or fungal infections of scalp and hair follicles, dermatitis and psoriasis. Out of this Hair loss (alopecia) is a frequent concern for both men and women, although it is normal to shed some hair each day.
There are different kind of hair loss and so are their causes. For example, the most common form of hair loss is Involutional alopecia. It is a natural condition in which the hair gradually thins with age. The second common type is Androgenic alopecia, a genetic condition that can affect both men and women which is characterized by a receding hairline and gradual disappearance of hair from the crown and frontal scalp. Alopecia areata is characterized by patchy hair loss and often starts suddenly. As the name suggests, Alopecia universalis causes all body hair to fall out, including the eyebrows, eyelashes and pubic hair.
Other types of hair fall include conditions like Telogen effluvium, which is a temporary hair thinning over the scalp that occurs because of changes in the growth cycle of hair and scarring alopecia which may result in permanent loss of hair, is a result of inflammatory skin conditions and other skin disorders that may result in scars that destroy the ability of the hair to regenerate.
Many individuals are affected by hair loss and other hair and scalp problems at some point in their lives. Treatments are offered for a wide range of hair and scalp problems from common hair fall to disorders of scalp.
Owing to various causes such as a poor diet, environmental factors, hormonal imbalance or stress, many people often end up suffering from conditions like hair fall, premature greying, or thinning. Also, frequent use of hair styling techniques without considering the health status of hair and scalp can also lead to temporary or permanent damage to hair. In such scenarios Ayurveda and its treatment methods are very effective in further prevention of damaged hair and revival of hair and scalp health.

Specific post care measures are advised by our experienced Ayurveda Practitioners which may include Ayurvedic internal medications and diet routines.
Outcome of the Treatment
Our treatments are intended to nourish hair and help prevent hair loss. However, lost hair can be regrown only under certain conditions as it depends on the cause of hair fall.
